Critically acclaimed concert violinist, recording artist and author, Peter Ferreira (Pedro M. Ferreira), has been a very active violinist since the age of 6, inspired by his grandfather, also a violinist. He entered the Conservatorio Regional De Musica in Coimbra, Portugal, where he studied with teacher Dario Peixoto and later made his concerto debut at age 8. In 1988, Danbury High School awards Peter with a Senior Orchestra Award. Mr. Ferreira has received various awards during his years in high school and college while studying with such great violinists as Joel Pitchon, Mara Milkis, , Erick Friedman, James Graseck and Joey Corpus. He has also participated in master classes with Pinchas Zukerman and Itzhak Perlman and had a "series of meaningful musical encounters" by the late Isaac Stern. As a soloist, Mr. Ferreira has been repeatedly praised for the beauty of is tone, the depth and flair of his musicianship, and his rare balance of virtuosity and sensitivity. He has performed as soloist with orchestras and ensembles in the United States, Canada, South America and Europe. He founded the Dresden String Quartet in 1998, and performed as its first violinist through 2002. In April 2006, Peter Ferreira and Paulo Soares arrange and record various pieces of traditional Portuguese Coimbra Fado Music in his hometown Coimbra. Marking a new era in these genre of music with something never done before.
2007 Mr. Ferreira publishes is first book - The Violin Companion (1sr Ed.) In 2008, Peter Ferreira traveled to his hometown, Coimbra, per invitation of the University and Town of Coimbra, where he performed a live concert at the famous Jardim da Sereia with his friend and guitarist Paulo Soares (Port. guitar). Later that year, Mr. Ferreira commissioned composer Don Nardo, to compose a double concerto for violin, guitar and orchestra, introducing the Portuguese Guitar into a pure classical setting for the first time.
In May 2009, Peter Ferreira publishes his second Edition of The Violin Companion now available online, Amazon and at other book retailers. He also announces is 3rd book - The Violinist, An Inside View of the Real Music World, to be published in the Fall of 2009. Finally, Mr. Ferreira is an active freelance musician and composer. In 2003, one of his personal compositions was featured in a video documentary about the underwater exploration of the German U853 submarine which sank off the Rhode Island coast during WWII. As an independent artist, Mr. Ferreira teaches privately, lectures, and conducts master classes at different schools and through his private studios. He has also recorded four CD albums, two of them in his own studio and now under his own independent record label AEMINIUM Records. Some of Mr. Ferreira's recordings include:
During the next season, Peter will continue to expand his presence on the concert stage with a series of important orchestral debuts and recital tours with his pianist and friend Timothy A. Wallace. Mr. Ferreira is also a columnist for Mundo Portugues and Comunidades-USA Magazines.
